Russian tanker helmets, right? Those guys must be the wussies of the team.

And don’t tell them I said that, OK?

…His fox fur hat is the highest honour for a player…
That’s what I call modernity!
Just a thought: do you think helmets here worn as trophies (scalps, etc)?
BTW, the word is “tankist” (member of the tank crew), not “tanker” (ship) in Russian.

Uh-oh, now we’re getting all linguistic and shit. Tankist makes lots of sense from a Russian speaker’s perspective. We mustn’t forge that English is a pretty batty language when it comes right down to it.

My college roommate wore his tanker boots every day.

Whoa! And check out the “foreign surplus” there, too!
Still, Nathan, do you think those helmets is the result of the trade or actual bloody trophies? Somehow I’d like to think – the latter. In the proper spirit of the game.
Come to think of it – it makes more sense to wear a helmet instead of the fox fur. I used to have fox fur hat (different model). Blocks peripheral vision, very hot, not stable on one’s head when in violent motion. And tankist helmets used to have integral headphones – not sure if usable in this particular case…
