Biodiversity in Uzbekistan

A representative of the Species Survival Commission of the World Conservation Union in Central Asia Elena Muhina-Kraitsberg thinks that the past period was transitional for the biodiversity in Uzbekistan. According to her, as a result of decrease in economic activity there are some positive signs in the preservation of the unique biodiversity of Uzbekistan. The future of biodiversity in the country will depend on several factors, the main of which are the developments in the irrigation system and the use of water in Uzbekistan and the Region. Social, economic and political factors influence the biodiversity in Uzbekistan more than illegal hunting or other natural causes. There exists a great potential for ecotourism…
