Ted Rall’s Latest Screed

by Laurence Jarvik on 8/19/2004 · 6 comments

Eurasianet’s sometime observer of Uzbek politics turns his attention to the USA in this essay…

Title: “NYC to GOP: Drop Dead.”

Here’s a sample:

Tourists are pleasantly surprised when New Yorkers act as friendly and polite as the people back home in Maybury. However, delegates to this month’s Republican National Convention shouldn’t expect to be treated to our standard out-of-towner treatment. The Republican delegates here to coronate George W. Bush are unwelcome members of a hostile invading army. Like the hapless saps whose blood they sent to be spilled into Middle Eastern sands, they will be given intentionally incorrect directions to nonexistent places. Objects will be thrown in their direction. Children will call them obscene names. They will not be greeted as liberators.

Nice, isn’t it?

And there are also New Yorkers who are going to protest the protesters…

Have fun! Be sure to say hello to Ted Rall in Uzbek (“Assalom Aleikum!”) while he’s hurling an object in your direction or making an obscene remark…

Oh, no, you’ve got mixed up: HE is not going to make obsene remarks, he’ll send CHILDREN to do it.
A sensible chap.

Tatyana, Protest Warrior has about 200 counterprotesters signed up right now. If I wasn’t going to be on vacation, I’d maybe go for the entertainment value.

Also, if y’all haven’t seen it, check out Michele Catalano’s reaction.

My son’s signed up long time ago (all by himself, I learned about it a week ago). Since I’m a perpetual “thermos-holding, camera-snapping, napkin-stashing” mom (does that reminds you of the ski-resort routine? that’s where it started), I’m assigned to the sidelines for logistical reasons. And he’ll be 18 on Aug.28th, so there’s no kid-exploitation here.
