Uzbek Student Plays American Football in Kansas

This is a heartwarming story about improving international understanding through sport at Thayer High School in Kansas, mentioning Uzbekistan, from the Mercury News:

“They are getting, I think, a true American experience,” said Chris Jeffery, principal at Thayer High School in southeastern Kansas, where a third foreign student joined the team just this week. Two of the students are from Germany and a third is from Uzbekistan. In rural America on a Friday night, a football game, that’s it,” he said. “We don’t have the malls for kids to come to. The kids are seeing this is what rural America is all about.”
