More on the Internews Shutdown in Uzbekistan

by Laurence on 9/16/2004

A long report about the Internews closure in Tashkent is online at the UN Office for the coordination of Humanitarian Affairs–IRIN.

Apparently the office can’t be closed for 20 days, while Internews appeals its case. So, stay tuned…

BTW, What ever happened to Marika Olsen, former head of the Tashkent office? Can’t seem to find her name anywhere in these stories. Did bureaucrats with this so-called “news organization” force her out of her job because she believed too strongly in freedom of the press, for daring to publish what she honestly thought and felt?

Marika, write your book, please, we’re waiting…
