Al Jazeera Reports Foreign Office Response to Murray

by Laurence on 10/11/2004

Pretty fair and balanced story from the Arab television news network Al Jazeera:

The Foreign Office responded by saying that the British government complies with the international legal commitments, particularly the UN convention against torture. It also added that intelligence agencies have never abused prisoners to gain intelligence or incited others to do so.

But it added: “We have to bear in mind the need for intelligence for counter terrorism to arrest threats to British lives. Where there was reliable intelligence with a direct bearing on terrorist threats it would be irresponsible to ignore it out of hand.”
