German Chancellor Visits Uzbekistan

Gerhard Schroeder is visiting the German military base in Termez, according to Interfax. The story says Germany has 40 joint ventures worth $760 million IN Uzbekistan, and has given $177 million in financial aid to Karimov’s government. There are 52 German companies operating in the country.

I’d be curious to know how long that aid was spread out over. One of the rhetorical cards up my sleeve when discussing the close US-Uzbek relationship is to bring up the Germans.
