Vaidisova Wins Tashkent Open

by Laurence on 10/19/2004

Sporting Life reports from what I remember used to be called “The President’s Cup.”

Nicole Vaidisova was crowned as victor of the Tashkent Open on Sunday,

The 15-year-old Czech came from a set down to beat ninth-seeded Frenchwoman Virginie Razzano.

Vaidisova lost the first set 7-5 but rallied to take the next two 6-3 6-2.

The result was a disappointment for Razzano who had been bidding for her first WTA title.

Vaidisova, who won her second title despite her tender years, was born in Nuremberg, Germany but now lives in Prague.
