Report from the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.

A 24-year-old woman from Cokato, Minn., was killed Saturday by a suicide attacker on a bustling street in the capital of Afghanistan, relatives said.

Jamie Michalsky, a graduate of Cokato High School who had been working as a Russian-language interpreter in Uzbekistan, was spending a weekend in Kabul when the explosion rocked a retail district in the Afghan capital, said her mother, Lissa Michalsky.

Michalsky had been shopping with friends, her mother said.

“The bomber was targeting a [peacekeeping] truck,” she said. “Jamie was standing by it. She was in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

Lissa Michalsky said she learned of her daughter’s death at 8:30 a.m. Saturday in a call from Jamie’s employer, WorldWide Language Resources Inc. of Andover, Maine. The employer said Jamie had died within the previous two hours, Lissa Michalsky said.

Edgar Vasquez, a spokesman for the State Department, said he wouldn’t be able to confirm any fatalities from the suicide attack until today.

Now this is something that you don’t often see covered in the US. Kabul is now a regional vacation spot. That doesn’t really fit with the MSM narrative for the place.

It wasn’t a regional vacation spot. She was a former soldier who had previously served in Kabul. While working in the region she made a return trip to her former area of operation.
