Site Changes

I’ve made a slew of changes to the site.

Most noticeable are the navigation buttons on the side. The archives button takes you to a sortable archives page. If anyone knows what I’m doing wrong to prevent the body background color from showing up, here is the code. Any pointers are much appreciated.

For those who are interested in the image on the buttons, it is from pottery depicting Hermes slaying Argus.

I also made a banner with the image. I really like it, but it’s kind of lacking something, so I’m holding it back for now.

The rest of the changes are all with comments. I’ve enabled gravatars. If you don’t have one, nothing shows up for now. But odds are very good that you’ll end up with a camel image or something. No pressure…

The whole mandatory preview then post system is now gone. There is now a live preview of comments below the comment entry box. And below that, you’ll find a security code that you have to enter to make your comment. This proved rather serendipitous as the moment I put it in place, a massive spam attack stopped cold.

I’ve tested everything and it seems to be working correctly. It looks much better in Firefox. For example, the png buttons I just added don’t show up as gray boxes but actually have a transparent background like they’re supposed to. If you experience any issues, let me know.

Concerning the background-color issue:

Did you intentionally leave out the “hmenu” and “hnav” div’s from your archives page code? I see that it’s used on every other page of Registan. If you didn’t omit it for a reason, then you should be able to solve this background-color problem by adding it to your code.

I tinkered around with it on my computer and I think your final code should look something like this:

Hope that helps. Shoot me an e-mail if you have any questions.

Hmmm…

I kind of modeled it on this if I recall correctly. Didn’t catch the hmenu and hnav divs but including them still seems not to do the trick. It’s much better how it behaved out of the box so I’m mostly happy with it.
