Is it over?

Two different news agencies are reporting that protesters have dispersed. Lyndon has the skinny.

He definitely deserves a medal for doing all this translation work.

If troops have dispersed the protest as it looks like they have (or are planning to do), I can’t help but be reminded of remarks made by Karimov to the effect of not taking no guff off of no protesters like Akayev did. I can’t find this in my archives, so maybe I’m remembering incorrectly.

Could you guys in the States please monitor Fergana.ru for us here in Uzbekistan? We are blocked out, or at least my internet service is.

Shucks, Nathan, it’s nothing, really, compared to the job that you do covering the region day in, day out. I just translated one of the more astounding reports off of Fergana.ru here – http://scrapsofmoscow.blogspot.com/2005/05/latest-from-ferganaru-no-comment.html (“Violent repression of the rebellion in Uzbekistan has led to hundreds of deaths”)

Not sure if the headline is sensationalism – the eyewitness actually said, “hundreds of wounded and killed,” but either way this is pretty serious.

David, for your benefit (and hopefully the benefit of others), I’ve translated another late-breaking (from less than an hour ago) report from Andijan off Fergana.ru – http://scrapsofmoscow.blogspot.com/2005/05/contact-with-andijan-translated-by-me.html

Hang in there, everyone.
