The Moscow News quotes Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov’s allegations that Chechens were involved in the Andijan confrontation, although the story admits that the charges are still being “verified.” Same charges here. File under: Important If True…

How about, “File under: Utterly Preposterous”?

Instead of uncritically repeating this nonsense, how about a bit of analysis? Seems like this is very likely Moscow’s way of publicly telling Karimov that they are going to close their eyes and let him do whatever he wants if situations like Andijdan recur. Cynically translating Lavrov’s comments from diplo-speak might yield the following: “Hey, it’s like Chechnya. So go ahead and kill civilians. We understand.”
