The European Union and the US Department of State demand an international investigation should be filed into the Andijan events. It is noteworthy that Washington has had a rather quiet attitude regarding the events in Uzbekistan before. Russia is strongly against such an investigation, although Russian officials persistently say that they possess the trustworthy information about vestiges of foreign participation in the uprising.

Is this foreign element that russia keeps going on about actually credible? I’ve heard claims of reliable intelligence linking Andijon to Afghanistan but at the same time i recently read the spurious claim that Chechnya was behind the whole thing. At the same time, most reports on Andijon say the police fired unprovoked on the crowd.

I think i’m drowning in information, frankly.

Jacob, I never got around to posting it, but there are some Chechens with the IMU in Pakistan.
