Continuing the theme…

OK, can’t compete with animatronic Turkmenbashis (maybe one could take over in 2009 and let the real one take a break), but the photo below – which was originally taken at a pro-Kulov rally a couple of days ago to illustrate how serious people think the consequences could be if the current political situation here in Kyrgyzstan isn’t dealt with effectively – seems to be crying out for a decent caption. I’m going for something along the lines of “Blues brother found in Bishkek” until someone comes up with something better.

Crying out for a caption...

As for the Aksakals, complete with stickers on their kalpaks announcing “I’m not scared”, well, no caption required, just good protesting in true Kyrgyz style.

For a more serious look at the protests that have been going on in Bishkek and other parts of Kyrgyzstan over the last week, take a look at the New Eurasia Kyrgyzstan Blog and Mental Wanderlust, which will be updated with photos from today’s meeting, at which the youth movement KelKel were active participants, over the weekend, assuming there’s a decent internet connection.

“It’s one hundred and six miles to go. We got a full tank o’ gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it’s dark and we’re wearing kalpaks.”
“Hit it!”

THe first picture looks like somebody trying to score something illegal.
