Registan covers Eurasian politics, news, society, and culture, seeking to draw more attention to issues and news rarely covered in much depth, if at all, by western media. Our focus is primarily on the former Soviet Republics of Central Asia and the Caucasus and Afghanistan, with an emphasis on these countries’ domestic politics, foreign relations, and the intersection of the social and political.
Registan was founded in 2003 by Nathan Hamm in order to offer analysis and context to reporting from Central Asia. It has grown to include numerous contributors with experience living and working in Central Asia. Notable active contributors include Joshua Foust, who joined in 2006, Sarah Kendzior, Alima Bissenova, and Wendell Schwab.
Nathan, Joshua, and several other Registan contributors have years of experience advising corporate and government clients on navigating complex political, social, and cultural environments in Central and South Asia order to achieve business, development, and policy goals. Registan is branching out from simply being a news and analysis blog to leverage our professional experience to serve a wider base of clients.
