- President Akayev is filing a defamation suit against an opposition newspaper, Moya Stolitsa Novosti (RFE/RL Newsline, 2-18-05). Today, activists from Kylym Shamy and Kel Kel rallied in support of the paper outside of its offices.

- The EU is worried about the deteriorating situation in Kazakhstan.
- Nazarbayev starts to echo Akayev by warning that revolutions can only bring chaos.

Akaev hasn’t filed the suit yet. If there’s no retraction in Sautrday’s edition (which probably won’t come out because the electricity at the printing press has been cut off) then he’ll sue.
