Russia’s bolstering its defenses at its Kyrgyz airbase:
A Russian Air Force base in Kant, not far from the Kyrgyz capital, is building up safety against raging riots, Army General Yuri Baluyevsky, Chief of General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, said to the media.
“There is no reason for now to expect violence against Russian soldiers-but we shall do what is necessary to protect them. In fact, we have done something even now.
“Not only Russians but other countries’ nationals are endangered in Kyrgyzstan. We hope the doped riotous mob will not fully destabilize our neighbor country and member of the Collective Security Treaty Organization,” said the general.
“Doped riotous mob.” I love it.
Pyotr “There’ll never be a revolution in Kyrgyzstan” Goncharov writes on Russia-Kyrgyz reliations:
There are some things that matter even more, stressed Mr. Imanaliev. Bishkek hopes to meet understanding in Moscow. The change of regime in Kyrgyzstan by no means implies whatever geopolitical factors. To shift foreign-political bearings is the last thing Kyrgyzstan intends to do, he reassured. “Whoever stands at the Kyrgyz helm, and whoever gets the foreign-ministerial portfolio, Russia will remain Kyrgyzstan’s top strategic partner.”
