The Kyrgyz parliament has finally accepted Akayev’s resignation and selected July 10 as the date to elect his replacement.

UPDATE: AKIpress reported that Bakiev pushed the parliament not to delay the vote too long.

Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Kurmanbek Bakiev, acting president of the republic, has called on the parliament not to postpone the presidential election till fall.

“Some people here suggest holding the election in the fall,” he told the deputies on Friday. “I do not think this is a correct decision. We should make the decision as we had planned before, in the last days of June.” Bakiev also called on the deputies not to rush to cancel all privileges and the status of the first president of Kyrgyzstan. “This is a complicated issue. I think we should not make rash decisions but discuss and ponder it seriously.”
