I don’t know if the government think this will get them off the hook, but Uzbekistan’s lower house of parliament has appointed an independent commission to investigate what took place in Andijon. Of course, as the great Soviet tradition of abusing the definitions of words dictates, “independent” doesn’t exactly mean what one would expect.
The independent commission comprises representatives of all political party factions and senators, who were proposed by the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
UPDATE: Forgot to mention that Olesya commented on this too. Thanks, Ben!
