This interesting article by Kareem M. Kamel, dated May 29th, takes a look at the role of Islamism in Uzbekistan, and in the recent Andijan killings, from a pro-Islamist perspective. Note curious use of NGO and western media reports that support Islamist claims; the conclusion based on such citations charges America has turned a blind eye to repression. This would indicate that no matter what America does to pressure Karimov for human rights reform, as a propaganda strategy Islamists will not give the USA credit for good intentions.
