RIA reports Uzbekistan has proposed a working group on Andijon to consist of foreign diplomats.
- Uzbekistan proposed to set up a working group of foreign diplomats accredited in Uzbek capital Tashkent to control measures aimed at the stability in Andizhan and the Andizhan region, Uzbek Foreign Minister Elyer Ganiyev said.
The working group may comprise representatives of the U.S., French, Russian, Chinese and other embassies, as well as diplomats from neighboring countries, the minister added.
“This proposal is explained by the necessity to carry out unbiased monitoring and control” and the expediency to involve “not only OSCE members but also the countries which are interested in regional stability,” he said.
“These are our nearest neighbors and countries situated close to our region,” Ganiyev said.
Looks like they might be willing to compromise. Maybe the NATO threat to cut off training motivated them a little?
It’s probably wise not to make too much of this, but it is something different.

expect similar ‘shifts’, working groups, roundtables, little concessions here and there – its typical MFA stuff to try and avoid the UN investigation. It all doesn’t amount to anything, but diplomats might waste time on it. They shouldn’t do….
You’re certainly right.
