Turkmenistan has announced a new holiday. Galla Bairami (“Grain Holiday”) will be celebrated on July 15th. Additionally, a new national museum called Ak Bughdoi (“White Wheat”) will open on the 15th.
Why all this grain news? It seems to all be in celebration of another record grain harvest. This year 3.1 million tons (enough to feed Turkmenistan for two years according to Turkmentbashi)–all of which I’m sure totally exists–were produced.
