squid123 August 12, 2005 at 10:54 am: One should be skeptical of this and not jump to conclusions. Why are we to believe this man’s claims or assume he has a following? Lots of times an individual says things the media or observers want to hear because he knows he’ll get lots of attention. But when his grandstanding fits so neatly into attractive narrative (terrorism, 9/11 and 7/7), we should automatically be suspicious. Also, I’d be reluctant to make a moral equivalence between opposing the Uzbek regime and the attacks on civilians in New York and London. People like GW Bush may benefit politically by painting the world with the broadest of brushes, but in reality, there are many shades of gray.
