Keeping up the melon celebrations, Carpetblogger discusses melon purchasing in Azerbaijan and offers up some pretty interesting mixed drinks using juiced watermelon including,
The Baku: A Manhattan made with, you guessed it, pomegranate juice. After looking high and low, I found Angostura bitters in Paris over the weekend so this drink will be certainly be the centerpiece of Saturday night’s party.
The only drink I’ve ever invented is The White Jamaican,* a White Russian substituting 151 for vodka. Invented out of desperation as opposed to creativity I assure you.
*A tribute to trustafarians. Because the drink sucks and no one in their right mind would want to have them at their party.

Pomegranetes are so last year.
Well, I guess covering Central Asia doesn’t keep a guy hip.
Hey, one year out isn’t _that_ bad. Some people are still wearing those jeans with faded patches.
A lover of rum and creamy anythings (ice cream, milk shakes and chocolate milk) I truly believe I am the only person, in my day of drink invention, that came up with the first “White Jamaican”. In 1984, in upstate New York, at a Tavern called The Cobblestone I entered a drink-naming contest. I later found out these were contests thrown by alcohol distributors who paid their rounds going from the bars they sold liquor to. In my case, it was a Seagram’s distributor throwing the Drink-Naming Contest. I later found out when REALLY creative drinks were named, they paid the person entered in the contest who win (in my case $100) and then they enter it into a journal that goes to various liquor manufacturers to claim as their “own” drink. I hated vodka but loved Kahlua and milk/cream. So since Meyers’s Rum was my drink of choice it made sense for me to substitute Jamaican Meyers’ for the vodka in the traditional White Russian. P.S. Your White Jamaican isn’t even Jamaican since 151 rum is only made popularly by Bacardi which is Puerto Rican. My White Jamaican truly has a Jamaican ingredient.
