RFE/RL has a follow-up on the decree banning recorded music in Turkmenistan.
Turkmen television reported that at a meeting yesterday, singers and composers thanked Niyazov for his parental care in “protecting the national principles of the Turkmen people in art and in culture and particularly in singing musical performances.”
A singer identified in the report as M. Bayramgeldiyev said that “it is impossible to express one’s deep love of the homeland, people and native land when there is a sound recording instead of live voice and live sound.”
