Uzbekistan Born Teen Crowned Miss England

by Nathan Hamm on 9/4/2005 · 14 comments

Hammasa Kohistani became the first Muslim girl to be crowned Miss England. Kohistani was born in Tashkent after her parents were forced to flee Afghanistan. That Kohistani and another Muslim finalist, Sarah Mendly, took part in the competition has some a bit miffed.

“There is no way a Muslim girl should be playing any part in this competition, because it is unlawful,” said Hashim Sulaiman of the Liverpool Islamic Institute, according to Friday’s edition of the Times newspaper.

“The ladies in that contest are very scantily dressed and the only part of the body that should be on display are the face, the hands, and the feet.”

Kohistani will compete for the title of Miss World in China this December. She has also been offered a spot in a Bollywood movie. Her Miss England page can be found here.

[24.31] “And say to the believing women that they cast down their looks and guard their private parts and do not display their ornaments except what appears thereof, and let them wear their head-coverings over their bosoms, and not display their ornaments except to their husbands or their fathers, or the fathers of their husbands, or their sons, or the sons of their husbands, or their brothers, or their brothers’ sons, or their sisters’ sons, or their women, or those whom their right hands possess, or the male servants not having need (of women), or the children who have not attained knowledge of what is hidden of women; and let them not strike their feet so that what they hide of their ornaments may be known; and turn to Allah all of you, O believers! so that you may be successful.”

This will not bring you happiness in this life, or success in the Hereafter. A woman’s faith and modesty give her more beauty than any external attributes ever can.

Salaam Alaikum.

I agree with Comments by Sister Zaynab. Please re-read the quotation and ponder over it.

I pray for you to be amongst the most guided and rightous.

Did we forget we were islam? Sister, Don’t let your color of skin lie to you because you are islam. don’t forget what Allah said in the Holy Qur’ran.I know it is hard when you are living in non-muslim place but don’t forget who you are. May Allah help you or guide you in your life. Good Luck Sister.
