More specifically, curse this book about Magnitogorsk that, while quite interesting, has consumed all my time the past couple days.
I must admit defeat and accept that I will not be able to write posts on a few items. They are interesting though. So, I highly recommend reading:
- A Ferghana.ru story about how the Andijon trial is the Uzbek government’s preparation for becoming the new Belarus. How I wish I could find the posts some months back when I talked about trying to make Karimov a pariah and liability for Russia just like Lukhashenko as about the only reasonable policy option for “doing something” (as opposed to just washing our hands and walking away) about Uzbekistan.
- Russia Profile’s weekly expert panel discusses Rice’s Central Asia trip (h/t Lyndon). It’s a shame I don’t have time to comment more than just to say that I think Tsygankov and especially Bruce are silly. A cookie to whomsoever can identify what bothers me most in one of the two’s statements.

No cookie for me.. I couldn’t find it. In fact, I couldn’t find much to disagree with in either’s analysis.
