The Sweet Sounds of Central Asian Pop

by Nathan Hamm on 3/29/2006 · 12 comments

Uyghur pop! Enjoy! (via Younghusband and AsiaPundit from this new-to-me East Turkestan based blog)

I found some more videos on YouTube. You can find them after the jump.

This Qaraqalpak video features a bitchin’ solo in the middle over, well, all kinds of stuff.

Here’s another Uyghur one from The Opposite End of China.

And finally, here’s some Azeri rap.

I may have to make this a regular feature…

Those three girls call themselves “Shahrizoda”. I don’t exactly know whether they are uyghurs or not, but I’ve heard that they had been to China several times.

By the way, have you heard of a new Uzbek rapper Shokhrukh (orig. Shoxrux). Enjoy!

As for the dude with the eyebrows, rapping must be pretty easy with Turkish (Azeri) vowel harmony.

It seems to me that they have some kind of accent that I can’t recognize.
