Just a quick note to say that I will be away until December 20th or so at the Global Voices Summit in Delhi. I suppose there could be some tangentially Central Asia related content in the form of photos of Moghul architecture, but odds are I won’t be around.
Any Delhi tips are, of course, quite welcome!

I’m in India myself at the moment – currently in Bangalore but will be in Delhi very briefly on the 21st. Make sure you visit the Shrine of Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya, preferably on a Thursday when they have Qawwal in the evenings. This is something you won’t get in Central Asia as the Naqshbandis disapprove of such frivolity and stick to the silent Zikr – a pity as Qawwal is a wonderful musical form. You should also try to see some of the monuments at Mehrauli (not just the Qutb Minar, there’s other stuff there as well) and the fortress at Tughluqabad, both in South Delhi. Finally the Tandoori mutton bara (grilled lamb chops) at Karim’s knock spots off any shashlyk I’ve ever had in Uzbekistan. There are two branches, the original one near the South Gate of the Jama Masjid and another in Nizamuddin near the shrine. Have fun!
