It was born from that one time The Agonist interviewed me, and I floated the idea of a US-EU-China consortium to nab Turkmeni gas. As I researched more, China became far less likely as a consortium partner, but the US and EU could very well team up to balance our Russia.

Josh, this was great!
Did you really mean that Russia’s deal was exclusive? China’s deal with Turkmenistan for gas spans the next 30 years. Also Iran’s ongoing gas imports from Turkmenistan will be perpetual “good-neighbor policy”.

And that’s my bad with the exclusivity thing: it should say that Russia has an exclusive right to distribute Turkmeni gas to Europe. And if China can somehow make a 4000 mile gas pipe profitable, then more power to them.
I figured nothing was wrong with it as I just assumed exclusive rights to its never-ending gas reserves are the only kinds of deals that Turkmenistan signs.
