“Space Messenger” Attacks US Embassy in Bishkek

spacemessenger.jpgThis is the kind of thing that MosNews used to excel at reporting. They also came up with images for such stories twice as cool as what I’ve come up with for this one.

A man, who calls himself “space messenger,” threatened to blow U.S. Embassy in Kyrgyzstan. The incident happened at 3.30 in the morning today.

Press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that two policemen, who guarded the embassy, heard somebody’s shouting. They saw that security of the checkpoint was trying to calm down absolutely naked man, who had an object in his hands. The man came to the checkpoint and threatens to blow the embassy. Later on the man threw unknown object to the window of the checkpoint.

The man is reportedly from Astana. He is currently in the hospital and police are trying to determine his identity.

Space messengers from Kazakhstan? One wonders what Chingiz Aitmatov might have to say about all this.

He threatened to blow the entire embassy? I hope he’s been working out.

Sorry, I couldn’t help that one.

Heard reports that the rock he threw dented the guardpost’s bullet proof glass. Seems to have been largely shrugged off as just another crazy showing up at the embassy (a yearly occurence apparently), but my question is: Why the american embassy and not some other place?
