Andersen on Andijon

AMFFF-button.gifLet it never be said that Registan.net does not from time to time give over some space to dissenting viewpoints. Michael Andersen, recently seen around here arguing the West’s relations with Uzbekistan, is screening his film on Andijon and the West at the Frontline Club in London on Friday at 7:30. Readers interested in the topic are encouraged to attend and report back with reviews.

Michael also sends along the following message.

me of you saw parts of the film last May, but – not least due to your comments and suggestions – this is a radically changed, more ‘aggressive’ and updated version. Also ‘thanks’ to the European Union and the US for jumping so thouroughly back into bed with Karimov. (Well, it is three years he murdered those people….). This gave us the ‘ending’ for the film (we did not want).
I hope that you will come, watch the film and participate in the discussion afterwards.
Also, as we are trying to get the film sold to TV channels and create some interest for the horrible situation in Uzbekistan, I would be greatful if you would forward this message to colleagues and friends.
Hope to see you Friday.
Best,
Michael

Guess I’ll have to wait for it to hit NetFlix. :) Seriously, though, I hope it comes closer home than London. Anything on Andijon is on my must-see list.

Hi Nathan,
Thanks a lot, much appreciated. Love that I am now a ‘dissenting viewpoint’….. from? No, seriously, I DO disagree with many of you guys on Andijan, fair enough, BUT I do LIKE the fact that we can have a debate about it…. One day you will see the light……. And I hope that mnay of you WILL show up in London Friday.
Michael Hancock and other interested – we are selling a DVD of the film – the site should be up and running sometime next week, or just drop me a note……. email: michaelandersencentralasia@yahoo.com
Thanks,
Michael

Just that you don’t hold the same opinions as me. Using the word “dissenting” is a dig at someone who has been accusing me of trying to block his “dissenting” comments over the past week.

Right, Mike. Just don’t mix facts telling with story telling – please make it clear what’s in your case.

Why not upload the film (or excerpts) to YouTube so that Registan might link to it? That way, viewers who can’t make it to London (one of the world’s most expensive cities) would be able to watch online…
