Here We Go Again

Hello, folks. I’m Matthew, and I don’t really have time to introduce myself, so go ahead (if you feel the need) and check out my personal blog for all my personal stuff: http://wheelfirebird.blogspot.com.

Anyway, we’ve had a lot of comments about the news that there will be a runoff in Afghanistan in about a week. I’d just like to point out something that is staggeringly obvious (being so, this has probably occurred to many people already): How do we know that Karzai and Abdullah aren’t just going to do the exact same thing again? Even if the run-off seems to be (relatively) clean, there will be a suspicion of well, perhaps it was clean, or perhaps they were just more sneaky this time.

So even with this runoff (which I would favor anyway) the process is still suspect, and in the end, the only people who really win are the Taliban.

Welcome to you and the other new contributors. Will there be an mass introduction post for the new writers at some point?

Not to pile on, and this is not really aimed at Matthew, rather all the new posters in general, but give us an introduction, about yourselves and what you’ll be blogging about. Give us some context (linking and background) in your posts; develop a theme and story within the post; a first post should have some more bang than a 20-word twitter shouldn’t it?

@Michael:
Sorry for the short post, I was in a bit of a hurry (and I’m in one now, too), and since it’s registration week here (YAY FUN), I need to work on putting together my next semester schedule, and deal with normal activities, as well. I’ll have my little intro up soon, and I hope I’ll have a beefier post or two up later this week.

Matthew

Obama may be holding off on announcing a troop build up to wait and see how the second round of the elections turns out. He could be using that as leverage to encourage Karzai and Abdullah to play fair.
