The army lacks the ability to tackle all their beloved islamist assets at one go, but until this point I am not convinced that they even have the WILL to do so. They have not yet given up on the good taliban and the good jihadis and of course, the good ones are happy to give shelter to the bad ones so the show goes on. The fact that known ISI mouthpieces are working so hard at creating an anti-american, hypernationalist information environment is not a good sign. It may be that these are now ex-mouthpieces but the fact remains that their effectiveness would evaporate if the army visibly distanced itself from them. The fact that the army has done no such thing makes one suspect all claims that they are "now convinced that all terrrorists have to be eliminated". If they were that convinced, why would their pets like Ahmed Qureshi and Zaid Hamid be going around sowing total confusion?

The only other possibility is that this is some kind of demented psyops operation, meant to confuse the jihadi element in the army and the establishment, but if it is, it is having the opposite effect...

Hyperlink:-

I should learn to deal with hyperlinks better...

About the sliding puzzle, it does seem a little bit like that. I suppose that is why insurgents (here or anywhere) get a distinct advantage when they can operate cross border. That takes a lot of spaces/puzzle pieces away from the conventional force.

Not to be a jerk, but the hyperlink for "rot" is broken, and I'm curious to read it.

I also can't help but think that the whole counter-insurgency is turning into a sliding puzzle. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sliding_puzzle
You know, keep pushing things into a different area, and then a different area, in the hope that one of the areas will unlock the whole puzzle. Except there are no IDPs in one of those.
