As I’m sure many of you blog (but not RSS!) readers have noticed, I have a book coming out this month with Just World Books. Afghanistan Journal: Selections from Registan.net is an edited compilation of the last four years of blogging in this space: starting with my trip there last year with the Human Terrain System, and incorporating the last several years of wrestling with the country’s social and political environment, along with the messy and often incoherent intricacies of American policy.
To celebrate, I’m holding a launch party at 4 pm on Tuesday, November 9 at The Stimson Center. It’s a busy day—there’s another Afghanistan conference (invitation only!) at the New America Foundation, and later that evening is Robert Kaplan’s glittery launch party at the Willard Intercontinental.
However: this is a special occasion for me—not the latest in a long string of conferences on the same topic, and not my millionth book. This is an important project on the part of JWB, by adding significant value to the blogs they publish by organizing and editing them, and making them easy to digest in a single sitting (something many blogs, especially ones with thousands of entries over many years of multiple authorship, like Registan.net, do not make easy). Plus, I think this is an important perspective to be heard—no less than Anatol Lieven declared Afghanistan Journal it to be “deeply depressing,” and former Ambassador Ron Neumann has both endorsed it, and offered to host my party at Stimson.
So, dear readers: if any of you are in the Washington, DC area on November 9, come out to the Stimson Center at 4 pm! I’d love to meet every single one of you!

What they need in Af/Pak region.
Congratulations, Josh! I remember when you were fundraising to go to Afghanistan. Glad you made it there, and got a book out of it, to boot!
Congratulations, Josh! Looking forward to reading it.
Congrats, Josh. If I was within a thousand miles I’d be there. Since I’m not, I’ll have to ask: Does Just World ship internationally?
Hearty congrats!
If Anatol Lieven said it was “deeply depressing,” then it’s definitely worth a look… Really though, congratulations.
I’m in the DC area, but being a student and all I think I’m supposed to be going to classes or something… Hmm…
Josh-
Congratulations! Wish I could be there!
Andy

And if you need a date for the “invite only” Afghanistan Conference at NAF I’m, uh, interested in going. Ahem. (How the hell did I not get invited?!?)
Congrats! If I were within hailing distance of DC, I’d be there in a Bloomington, Indiana minute.
